Celebrating 55 Years of Soneta, Rhoma Irama Sings A Whole New World
JAKARTA - A unique moment occurred at the "Rhoma Irama Selebrasi 55th Soneta" concert which took place at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Jakarta, Saturday, December 13. The King of Dangdut, Rhoma Irama sang the Aladdin theme song, "A Whole New World" at the concert.
In the concert commemorating the 55 years of Rhoma's journey working with the Soneta music group, Rhoma skillfully sang the famous song in the Disney film "Aladdin" together with Yuni Shara.
"I can be a little arrogant, I used to be the winner of pop singing in Southeast Asia," said Bang Haji, quoting ANTARA on December 14.
It is known that Rhoma Irama was once a champion at the Asian Pop Singer Festival in 1972 after performing an English-language pop song titled "I Who Have Nothing", which proved his pop vocal quality on the international stage before he was known for his dangdut music with the Soneta Group.
This rare moment did not stop there. After duetting by performing a western pop song, the two sang together again, but this time Rhoma invited Yuni to duet dangdut with the song "Just You."
"I grew up with Soneta songs, so I understand, even though my ability is not so much (in dangdut music)," said Yuni, who looked charming in her black dress.
Not only Yuni Shara, other guest stars such as rock singer Nicky Astria and pop singer Armand Maulana also performed that night. Nicky performed one opening song "Adu Domba" with Rhoma, while Armand performed "Darah Muda" and "Santai" with pop arrangements.
The "Rhoma Irama Selebrasi 55th Soneta" concert is a form of celebration to commemorate the 55 years of the long journey of the King of Dangdut working with the Soneta music group, which has colored the Indonesian dangdut music industry since its inception.
For more than five decades, Rhoma Irama and Soneta have been known to consistently present musical works that not only entertain, but also carry moral and social messages.
Rhoma displayed a row of legendary songs that have become attached to the hearts of the community, some of which are "Begadang", "Judi", "Sunday Night", "Gala Gala", to "Muskurane".
The evening concert was also an event of appreciation for loyal fans, Forsa, who have followed his journey with Soneta for 55 years of work.
