The Ministry of Home Affairs Supports USK Thematic KKN, Students Educate Disaster Mitigation
JAKARTA - Director General of Regional Administrative Bina Kemendagri Safrizal Zakaria Ali appreciates the implementation of the Tematik Disaster Work (KKN) of Tropical Cyclone Senyar in the 2025/2026 Academic Year held by Syiah Kuala University (USK), Aceh.
This thematic KKN places students in disaster-affected areas to carry out education, risk mapping, and mitigation activities.
Safrizal, who is also the Chairman of the Council of Trustees (MWA) of USK, in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, said the involvement of students was the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially the dedication and application of research science in the field.
USK has set a number of requirements for participants, including having completed 80 SKS, being physically and spiritually healthy, being willing to live full-time at the location, and programming KKN in the KRS. Students who are domiciled near the affected locations are prioritized to support the effectiveness of the assignment.
Safrizal emphasized that the program trains students' analytical skills and social awareness, as well as helping universities and local governments in improving disaster risk mitigation.
"Disaster preparedness is a joint effort, and the contribution of students is very meaningful for the region," he said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs through the Directorate General of Bina Adwil continues to encourage regional innovation in disaster management. The presence of the USK Tematik KKN is expected to strengthen community capacity while providing direct experience for students in dealing with disasters.
