Telegram Releases Passkeys Support for Login Without SMS Code

JAKARTA - Telegram announced a series of new features, one of which is support for passkeys for quick login. This update aims to improve security and ease of access for users.

This new passkeys feature allows users to log into Telegram without having to use an SMS code. Users can create passkeys by utilizing the device PIN or biometric data such as face ID and fingerprints.

The transition from SMS codes to passkeys offers a more secure and faster login method. According to Telegram, this support for passkeys without login will make the user experience much smoother.

"Passkeys work anywhere, anytime, even if you're traveling, spending the winter on a remote beach, or your SMS service is cut off," Telegram wrote in its blog post, quoted on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The encrypted keys for passkeys will be stored on the device and can be synced with password management apps such as iCloud, Google, and others.

To create passkeys, open Settings, then select Privacy and Security. Next, select 'You can do this on any device' in the Passkeys menu.

"However, don't throw away your SIM card first. Even though passkeys have been activated, make sure your account is registered on an active phone number that you control," explained Telegram.

Telegram also added a new feature that supports the use of internal device audio for Stories. To use this feature, users only need to tap the Sticker Button, select 'Audio', and choose a file from 'Saved Music'.

In addition to passkeys and the audio Stories feature, Telegram also launched a gift purchase offer with built-in anti-fraud protection. This shows Telegram's continued focus on security and user experience.
