Governor Instructs Regional Heads to Immediately Prepare Huntara Land
PADANG PARIAMAN - West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi instructed the regent and mayor in the disaster-affected areas to immediately prepare land for the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for the community.
"We must accelerate the construction of this huntara. Affected people need a safe and humane place to live," said Mahyeldi in Padang Regency, Saturday.
The governor said the construction of the huntara was an urgent need after the disaster that destroyed the residents' settlements in several districts and cities.
Huntara is one of the solutions so that survivors can immediately live in a more decent and safe place while waiting for the rehabilitation and reconstruction process.
"I ask the regent and the mayor to immediately prepare the land by ensuring that the location is not in a disaster-prone area," said Mahyeldi.
The former Mayor of Padang said that all funding for the construction of huntara would be borne by the central government through BNPB. Meanwhile, the local government is responsible for preparing data on affected houses as well as land release and readiness.
The governor revealed that so far only four regions have reported readiness of land for the construction of huntara, namely South Coast Regency, Agam Regency, Limapuluh Kota Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency.
"Only four regions have expressed their readiness for land. We hope that other regions will follow soon so that post-disaster handling can run simultaneously," he said. West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi instructed the regent and mayor in disaster-affected areas to immediately prepare land for the construction of temporary housing (huntara) for the community.
Apart from providing land, the governor also emphasized the importance of accelerating data collection in the field. Because, accurate data is the key so that the rehabilitation and reconstruction process can immediately begin after the emergency response period ends.
"The emergency response period for West Sumatra is until December 22. If the data is completed, we want it to go directly into the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase," he said.
Mahyeldi explained that there were two assistance schemes for people whose houses were severely damaged or destroyed by disasters. First, using the housing waiting fund (DTH) scheme for people who relocate independently. Second, the huntara and permanent housing (huntap) scheme for relocation facilitated by the government.
"Both schemes are borne by BNPB. The regional government plays a role in preparing land and ensuring that the data of affected people are really valid," he added.
