Ignore Trump, Thailand Continues to Attack Cambodian Military on the Border
JAKARTA - Fighting raged along the Thai-Cambodian border, even after US President Donald Trump, declared a ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Thai officials said they rejected the ceasefire, while Cambodia has not responded to Trump's claims. The Cambodian defense ministry instead said Thai jets carried out air raids on Saturday morning, December 13.
While Cambodian media reported Trump's claim without providing further explanation.
Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Trump's statement did not "reflect an accurate understanding of the situation."
"We regret and are disappointed that some of the points made by President Trump have impacted the feelings of the Thai people, because we consider ourselves - even we are proud of - as allies of the oldest treaty of the United States in the region," he said, quoted by the Associated Press, Saturday, December 13.
The latest major battle was triggered by clashes on December 7 that wounded two Thai soldiers and scuttled a Trump-brokered ceasefire that ended five days of fighting earlier in July over a long-running territorial dispute.
