Pramono Waits For Police Examination Results Before Handling Street Vendors Affected By Kalibata Clashes
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that he would handle the impact of the losses of MSME actors whose stalls burned down in the aftermath of clashes in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta, on Thursday, December 11.
However, before following up on this, Pramono was still waiting for the results of the police investigation. This is because there was a criminal case that resulted in two people dying at the scene.
"Yes, we will wait for the police first. Later, after the Police/Law Enforcement Officials decide, of course, the Jakarta Government will follow up on this," Pramono said in Central Jakarta, Friday, December 12.
According to Pramono, the riots in Kalibata on Thursday night were not as severe as the riots after the demonstration in Jakarta at the end of last August. Currently, the area has been declared safe.
Pramono explained that the riots in Kalibata were triggered by tensions between residents and a collector of motorcycle installments or debt collectors. The situation heated up after the residents' dissatisfaction with the billing method emerged, until finally a collision occurred at the location which resulted in casualties.
"The incident that occurred in Kalibata, this is actually a situational event. Because there are people who attract (the collection of motorbike installments that are in arrears) to be paid, then there is public dissatisfaction, the collision occurs," said Pramono.
Meanwhile, the South Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Nicolas Ary Liliy Pali, emphasized that the police would investigate the perpetrators of the beating of two debt collectors or Elang Eyes, as well as the perpetrators of the burning and destruction of stalls belonging to street vendors (PKL) in front of the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP).
He said the investigation process was carried out collaboratively between the Polres, Polda Metro Jaya, and Polsek Pancoran to reveal the perpetrators of the beating that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Nicolas explained that there were two cases being handled, namely beatings that left one victim dead and another seriously injured, as well as destruction of residents' stalls.

According to him, the beating of the two debt collectors triggered a reaction from fellow victims, which amounted to around 80 to 100 people. The mob came suddenly and damaged a number of stalls around the scene.
"Actually, we from the police have anticipated it, but the sudden mass force of approximately 100 people has damaged the stalls around this place," he explained.
