Saudi Arabia's Pro League Is Getting More And More Serious About Gaeting Mohamed Salah In The Midst Of A Commotion With Liverpool
JAKARTA - Saudi Arabian Pro League (SPL) clubs have targeted Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah. This was immediately confirmed by the Chief Executive of SPL, Omar Mugharbel, at the World Football Summit.
The Egyptian, who is going through a difficult time at Liverpool after his public dispute with club and manager Arne Slot, was not included in the squad that beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, early morning WIB.
The Merseyside club came in a bad period after suffering nine defeats in 15 games, with Salah criticizing the club for making him a scapegoat after a 3-3 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League.
Speaking to the World Football Summit in Saudi Arabia, Mugharbel said clubs in the Pro-Saudi Arabian League were interested in recruiting Salah.

"Mohamed Salah was accepted in the Saudi Arabian Pro League, but the clubs responsible for negotiating with the players. Of course Salah is one of them (targets)," said Mugharbel.
The 33-year-old was previously linked with a massive move to Saudi Arabia. When asked if he could move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League in January 2026, Salah implied denying it.
"I don't want to answer that question because the club will take me in a different direction," he said at the time.
Although the record is brilliant, the striker is actually not wanted by all Saudi Arabian Pro League clubs.
One of the Saudi Arabian Pro League clubs, Al Kholood, is not interested in signing Salah. Al Kholood's chairman, Ben Harburg, said the striker would not be compatible with the league.
"It's been there, even in the public, much greater concern about his arrival into the league. He's 33 years old, he's been paid very expensive (at Liverpool) and has appeared well below expectations since then."
"I'm sure some people like the charm of the star, he comes from this area, but I don't think he's suitable for our league. If he had to choose between him and Vinicius (Junior), I would pick Vinicius."
"I expect us to pursue 25-year-old next-generation players rather than players like Salah, which is clearly going to be the last stop of his career," Harburg told HaytersTV.
