Sultan Asks For Vehicles To Central Java Not To Enter Yogyakarta During The Christmas-New Year Holiday
YOGYAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X asked vehicles bound for Central Java (Central Java) not to enter the city of Yogyakarta to avoid congestion during the Christmas and New Year holidays (Nataru) 2025/2026.
"If they really want to go to Purworejo (Central Java), they want to go to Semarang, through Magelang, so don't enter the city of Yogyakarta. Don't enter Ring Road," said Sultan HB X at the Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, Thursday, December 11, reported by ANTARA.
According to Sultan, every year-end holiday DIY always faces the density of vehicle flows, especially at the east side entrance from the direction of Solo, Central Java.
Therefore, vehicle flow arrangements are carried out starting from the Prambanan area so that the increased traffic load does not accumulate in the city of Yogyakarta.
Vehicles that want to go to Purworejo, according to the Sultan, should be directed via Piyungan, Bantul, while those heading to Semarang or Magelang can take the route to Tempel without passing through Ring Road or city center.
According to Sultan, the condition of Jalan Solo and Ring Road is too congested so that control must be carried out early.
Alternative routes such as the Mataram Selokan inspection road have previously been addressed with the Sleman Regency Government to increase the space for vehicle movement, although now the route is also starting to be crowded.
"So we were forced to change in the middle, the road to inspect waterways, the Mataram Selokan, we finally finished with Sleman so that vehicles could get in and out of there," said Sultan.
Sultan added that current monitoring is now supported by CCTV at various intersections, so that the duration of traffic lights can adjust to field conditions.
Even so, he assessed that the technical step still had to be balanced by diverting vehicles outside the area so that the city center would not have a total traffic jam.
He also asked that road instructions be clearly installed to guide motorists from outside the region.
According to the Sultan, without adequate direction, the smooth flow of vehicles could be disrupted.
"Because it is not necessarily those from outside Yogyakarta who memorize the road," he said.
He hopes that the traffic flow will continue to move even at low speed so that traffic jams do not lock the main sections in the city of Yogyakarta.
"Even if the road is slow, 30 per kilometer or 40, the road is not 'stucked' (consistent)," said Sultan.
Head of DIY Transportation Agency Chrestina Erni Widyastuti estimates that the number of vehicles entering the DIY area during this year's Nataru holiday period will exceed the previous year's achievement.
"It will be evaluated more than last year. In 2024 it will be around 4 million," said Erni.
