PIS Take ADVANTAGE Of Early Warning System Data In Company Governance

JAKARTA PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) adopts various risk identification and assessment-based strategies for all business processes, both in terms of operations and investment projects, in the face of increasingly complex risk challenges.

VP Risk Strategy & Governance PIS Nico Dhamora revealed that PIS has transformed risk management from supporting functions into strategic drivers through strengthening governance, Structural Oversight, Business Continuity, Technology & Digitalization, and Risk Culture.

Nico said PIS has different characteristics from other companies. In the use of digitalization, it is not only seen from the data side.

"The use of digitalization at PIS does not only function to display operational data, but also acts as an early warning system that provides early signal as a consideration in making decisions. With fleets operating both inside and outside the territory of Indonesia, the ability to accurately monitor the position of the ship and understand the condition of colleagues at sea is very crucial. Through an integrated digital system, decision-making can be carried out risk-based and not merely intuition," Nico explained in the E2S Energy Update 2025, quoted Thursday, December 11.

He continued, PIS operates 474 tankers, 80 percent for domestic services and 20 percent serving 65 international routes, PIS assesses strengthening risk management is an urgent need.

According to him, risk management not only involves the company's internal efforts, but also involves collaboration with various external parties. PIS continues to communicate with regulators, stakeholders, suppliers, and clients to ensure that every operational stage meets the standards set both nationally and internationally.

"Fungsi manajemen risiko harus secara proaktif membangun koordinasi dan komunikasi dua arah dengan seluruh pemangku kepentingan. Efisiensi, baik dalam aspek operasional maupun proyek investasi, hanya dapat dicapai apabila terdapat kolaborasi yang solid dan komunikasi yang efektif. Melalui pendekatan tersebut, organisasi dapat memastikan bahwa setiap keputusan dengan tepat, ungkap Nico.

Furthermore, he said risk management plays a strategic role in overseeing the achievements of the Company's targets with comprehensive risk management.

"We must ensure that all risk events have been clearly identified so as not to cause loss or loss from both safety, business and reputation aspects. In addition, it is important to ensure that the business process carried out does not create new risks for the organization," Nico said.

The government assesses that companies in the energy sector in Indonesia are increasingly concerned about prioritizing risk management governance in business development.

Sekretaris Jendral Migas Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM) Muhammad Jilanisaf Rizwi Hisjam mengungkapkan bahwa penerapan manajemen risiko hal serius.

"Pentingnya mitigasi yang dapat membahayakan operasi di bidang energi kemajuan di bidang Sistem Informasi sejalan dengan munculnya resiko-resiko baru di sektor energi," kata Rizwi.

Secretary General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Muhammad Jilanisaf Rizwi Hisjam revealed that the implementation of risk management is serious.

"The importance of mitigation that could endanger operations in the energy sector of progress in the field of Information Systems is in line with the emergence of new risks in the energy sector," said Rizwi.
