The report also revealed that Kim "expressed his satisfaction about the extraordinary creation" and congratulated the staff of Kim Chaek University of Technology. Kim also repeatedly emphasized that talent is a great source and strength for the development of a country.

KCNA also released a photo of the grandson of the founder of North Korea during the inauguration of the fertilizer factory. The picture shows Kim cutting a red ribbon, with his sister Kim Yo-jong in tow.

However, speculation about Kim's health broke out when he did not attend his grandfather Kim Il-sung's birthday celebrations on April 15. Yet Kim Jong-un was seen in public four days earlier at a politburo meeting.

North Korea's state newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, on Sunday April 26 reported that Kim thanked the workers who helped with the renovation of Samjiyon City. The same newspaper reported that Kim also expressed gratitude to exemplary party members for their work promoting party policy.

US President the United States (US) Donald Trump declined to comment on reports of Kim Jong Un's appearance which coincided with May Day or International Labor Day.
