44 Annoying Seconds, Mount Ibu Erupts Ash Into The Halmahera Sky

TERNATE The Mother's Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, reported that Mount Ibu erupted again on Thursday, December 11, with volcanic ash bursts about 400 meters above the peak.

"The eruption occurred at around 10:22 WIT with a column height of ash being observed reaching 400 meters above the peak," said PGA Officer Mrs. Darso, in a written statement received in Ternate, Antara, Thursday, December 11.

The ash column looks gray with moderate intensity and tends to move east.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 25 mm and a duration of about 44 seconds," he said.

Currently, the volcano with a height of 1,325 meters above sea level is at Level II or Alert.

Communities around Mount Ibu, including visitors and tourists, are asked not to move within a 2 kilometer radius of the crater, as well as in sectoral areas up to 3.5 kilometers to the crater opening in the north.

"If ash rains, people who are active outside the home are advised to use masks and glasses to avoid exposure to ash," said Darso.

He also appealed to the public to maintain conduciveness, not to spread false information, and not to be provoked by issues with unclear sources. People should always follow the direction of local governments," he said.

Pemerintah Kabupaten Halmahera Barat juga diminta terus berkoordinasi dengan Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) maupun Pos Pengamatan Gunung Ibu di Desa Gam Ici, Kecamatan Ibu, untuk mendapatkan informasi langsung terkait aktivitas gunung.
