Anugerah Dewan Pers 2025, Pramono Tegaskan Jaga Kemerdekaan Pers
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized the DKI Provincial Government's commitment to maintaining press independence as a foundation for democracy while attending the 2025 Press Council Award at DKI Jakarta City Hall.
Pramono said that the press freedom space must be maintained without intervention, along with the increasingly crucial role of the media in supervising the running of the government.
Pramono also expressed his appreciation for the choice of the Jakarta City Hall as the location for the annual press council award. For him, this moment has its own meaning because he was directly involved in the formulation and ratification of Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press when he was still a member of the DPR.
"This law oversees and changes the face of our nation. Especially for how people can supervise, convey thoughts, control power, and voice the truth," said Pramono, Wednesday, December 10.
Pramono emphasized that consistency in maintaining a democratic space is a principle that he has held for decades in government. Including when he served as Cabinet Secretary.
"Let the press grow independently and become the main control. Criticism from the press actually helps the government get better," he said.
In organizing this year, the Press Council gave special awards to the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) for their contributions in maintaining democracy, humanity and peace. The award also highlighted JK's work in the peaceful diplomacy process, including resolving the Aceh conflict.
Pramono called the figure of JK as a consistent figure and has a long track record in efforts to build peace, both at the national and international levels.
"I am honored to be the host for Mr. JK. He is a consistent and committed figure to the nation from time to time," he said.
Pramono emphasized that his leadership will focus on the sustainability of Jakarta's development. He also ensured that local governments would continue to open up constructive dialogue spaces with the media as supervisory partners.
"The main thing is sustainability. Jakarta must continue to advance, and that can only be achieved if all parties work together, including the press," he concluded.
