South Korea Protests Russia's Chinese Plane Enters Its Air Defense Zone

JAKARTA - South Korea has protested to the defense attaches of China and Russia in Seoul over the entry of military aircraft from the two countries into the Korea Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ).

The day before, two Chinese military aircraft and seven Russian aircraft had entered and exited KADIZ over South Korea's eastern and southern waters (South Korea). Jets from the South Korean Air Force were then deployed to anticipate possible unintentional situations.

The Director General of the International Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) of South Korea, Lee Kwang-suk, protested the "hard" entry of the planes into their air defense zone.

"Militer kami akan merespons secara aktif terhadap aktivitas pesawat dari negara-negara tetangga di KADIZ sesuai hukum internasional," kata KemhanKorsel dilansir ANTARA dari Yonhap/OANA, Rabu, 10 Desember.

However, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said that the Chinese and Russian planes did not violate South Korean airspace.

Russia insists it does not recognize the air defense zone set by South Korea because it is considered not based on international law.

The airspace above the Ieodot of coral rocks submerged in the south of Jeju Island, which is the location for the entry of Chinese aircraft, is the point of dispute between South Korea and China because their air defense zones overlap.
