Sumatra Disaster Death Toll Becomes 969 People, 252 People Still Missing

JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of victims lost due to floods and landslides in a number of Sumatra areas covering Aceh, North Sumatra, and Sumatra was reduced by 12 people.

"For the missing victims, today there are 12 fewer people based on data which was then recapitulated and updated by the 3 provinces post. Yesterday, there were 264 people on the wanted list, currently there are 252 people," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10.

He conveyed this in a press conference regarding the updated handling of floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

He emphasized that the search for victims who were still missing was carried out by a joint team in the field by prioritizing the safety of personnel and paying attention to weather conditions.

In the same update, the government also noted that the number of victims who died increased to 969 people.

"Today, December 10, the number of victims who died increased by 5 bodies found. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rojiun, from the number of 964 people who died on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, today to 969 people," he said.

The fatalities consisted of 2 victims in Langkat, North Sumatra, and 3 victims in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra.

BNPB noted that the number of refugees reached 894,501 people as of this Wednesday.

"The number of refugees per day is 894,501 people. This has increased by 500 people, previously 894,101 people. This is an addition to North Sumatra Province," he said.
