Komdigi Targets 2,500 Villages In Indonesia To Be Connected By 2026

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital is targeting 2,500 villages that are not yet connected to enjoy internet services by 2026, as part of accelerating Indonesia Digital development.

Through the Declaration of Direction for Indonesia Digital, the Ministry of Communication and Industry is committed to accelerating the provision of internet access in areas that are still blankspots.

Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid emphasized that this equitable internet service will make it easier for the public to gain access to equivalent education, public services, and economic opportunities.

"We realize that there are still inequality of access in various regions, for that development in these areas will be a priority in 2026," Meutya said in a statement Wednesday, December 10.

Meutya emphasized that infrastructure that has been built needs to have a greater economic impact. Because according to him, currently infrastructure has not been utilized optimally.

"We have not maximized its utilization according to the capacity that we can actually get from infrastructure development. Technology is developing, but the economic impact has actually been felt, but we can increase it even higher," added Meutya.

Not only that, Meutya also added that the digital space must provide opportunities for the community, business actors, and the government to develop together.

"Digital transformation must give birth to real added value for the economy and open up opportunities for all," he said.
