SEA Games 2025 Results: Indonesian Women's Badminton Gets Silver

JAKARTA The Indonesian women's badminton team had to settle for a silver medal after suffering a 1-3 defeat against Thailand's host at Thamasat Rangsit Gym 4, Bangkok, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, afternoon WIB.

The first point for Indonesia was contributed by Putri Kusuma Wardani who was installed against Pornpawee Chochuwong. She was forced to play three games 21-8, 13-21, and 21-16 with a duration of 71 minutes.

This is the second victory that Putri got out of a total of 10 clashes with Pornpawee in the competitive arena. All two victories occurred in a row this year at the Sudirman Cup in May.

"In my opinion, today's match is quite satisfied to win from Pornpawee and bring Indonesia 1-0 up, but overall there must be tension and pressure due to the opening," said Putri after the match.

The struggle of three games must also be overcome by Rachel Alllessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum who participated in the second match against Benyapa Aimsaard/Supissara Paewsampran. Unfortunately, the pair who won the Australian Open 2025 lost 18-21, 21-11, and 18-21.

"Praise God for being able to finish the game without any injuries. From the game earlier, we already knew the game had never really felt how their opponents were," Rachel said.

Indonesia lost points again in the third party when Gregoria Mariska Tunjung fell as the second women's singles. Gregoria was helpless at all against Ratchanok Intanon in a two-game straight 7-21 and 15-21 matches.

The Indonesian women's team was then confirmed to fail to climb the highest podium after the women's doubles Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari also felt defeat against Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn/Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat with the final score 19-21 and 18-21.

Previously, in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, the Indonesian women's badminton team also met Thailand in the final round. At that time Indonesia lost 0-3 against the White Elephant Country.

After this, it is the turn of the Indonesian men's badminton team to fight in the final against Malaysia. Indonesia is the defending champion of the badminton men's team after defeating Malaysia in Cambodia in 2023.
