Dian Sastrowardoyo Says AI Cannot Replace Human Creative Originality
JAKARTA - In the midst of the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), actress and Founder of the Dian Sastrowardoyo Foundation, Dian Sastrowardoyo emphasized that AI is indeed capable of helping the work process in the creative industry, but still cannot replace the creativity and originality of human ideas.
According to him, AI can be a supporting tool to conduct research, data collection, and reference exploration. Especially in the film industry, AI can be used to collect surveys, articles, or data that are relevant more quickly than traditional methods.
"So if in the creative world, maybe AI can speed up research processes, procurement of data, which we previously had to go to the library or interview people himself, maybe she can help us access research results that have also been done," explained Dian at the 2025 Women's Day Innovation Demo event "Becoming a Changemaker in the AI Era: Women's Strength in Professional Transformation" on Wednesday, December 10.
However, even though AI has positive value to help do research, Dian considers that submitting most of the creative processes to AI actually eliminates the essence of the work itself.
According to him, AI basically only learns the patterns of existing works or existing learning data, so it is not able to create new really original ideas.

"Because AI is studying patterns, he will encourage from films that have been made, meaning that later the creative idea about the film will not be original and will not be something new," he said.
However, he underlined to always re-examine answers produced by AI. Because according to him, these results could be inaccurate or hallucinatory. "AI also has the ability to bully. So please check again every ChatGPT answer or AI answer."
