YOGYAKARTA The Plenary Meeting of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board which was held on Tuesday, December 9, resulted in the decision to appoint Zulfa Mutofa as the acting General Chair of PBNU. The profile of Zulfa Mustofa, who is known as one of the highly respected NU kiai figures.
Kiai Zulfa Mustofa was born in Jakarta on August 7, 1977. He is the son of Kiai Haji Muqarrabin. Meanwhile, his mother, Nyai Haji Marhumah Latifah, is known as the older brother of the former 13th vice president Ma'ruf Amin. This means that Zulfa Mustofa is the nephew of Ma'ruf Amin.
Born in a thick NU environment. Zulfa also studied religion in several Islamic boarding schools. However, his basic education was pursued in Jakarta. He studied at SD Al-Jihad Tanjung Priok until the third grade, then continued in Pekalongan, Central Java.
Zulfa also studied in the first middle class at MTs Salafiyah Simbangkulon, Pekalongan only up to grade 2. After that he was found to have moved to Kajen, Pati to deepen his religious education at the Islamic boarding school which was guarded by two large Nu kiai, namely KH Sahal Mahfudh and KH Rifa i Nasuha.

Zulfa's work in the NU organization began in 1997. At that time he joined as a cadre of the Ansor Youth Movement in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. Not only active in the organization, Zulfa is also known as a product kiai from a young age, including in the field of literacy. He had planned to continue his education to the Middle East but failed.

Not only that, in 2024 Zulfa received an Honoris Causa Doctorate degree from the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya in the field of Arabic Archipelago Science.
