Dedi Mulyadi Targets To Prepare Dams And Spatial Planning To Overcome Greater Bandung Floods Starting In 2026

BANDUNG - Governor of West Java (Jabar) Dedi Mulyadi stated the West Java Provincial Government's readiness to start comprehensive handling of floods that routinely hit the Greater Bandung area starting in 2026. The main focus of this handling includes the management of new spatial planning and infrastructure development such as dams.

Dedi Mulyadi emphasized that one of the fundamental aspects is to restore spatial planning to its natural function, especially by increasing green space.

Space links must be returned to natural functions. Green space must be reproduced, although there must be reaction and anger because many parties have been enjoying natural facilities inappropriately," said Dedi Mulyadi, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Stop Land Function Transfer

Another crucial step to be taken is the complete cessation of land conversion. Specifically, the change of tea or forest plantations into vegetable plantations that do not strengthen the soil structure, such as potatoes, will be stopped.

He asked those who had converted the land to return it immediately.

"Those who convert the land must return it to a tea plantation or other hard plants, so as not to cause sedimentation into the Citarum River," he said.

Infrastructure and Synergy

In addition to spatial planning, the West Java Provincial Government has also prepared a long-term solution in the form of dam construction in the Paperari area, Bandung Regency. This dam functions to temporarily withstand river currents in the upstream area.

Dedi Mulyadi also highlighted the importance of synergy between local governments in Greater Bandung to restore small lakes that have now turned into residential and business areas.

"Handling the Greater Bandung flood requires great work which includes river normalization, sedimentation dredging, spatial improvements, replanting mountainous areas, and reviving natural lakes," he said.

Highlights Hulu Damage

Dedi Mulyadi saw repeated flooding in Bandung Regency could not be separated from the severe damage in the upstream area, such as Ciwidey and Pangalengan. He admitted that he had coordinated with the Regent of Bandung regarding the findings of land conversion that increased speed and volume of water.

I remind those who cut down tea trees and other trees to be used as vegetable plantations. This is the impact of what you are doing. Hopefully, the 160 hectares of vandalism will be immediately detained," he threatened.

In addition to vegetable plantations, the spotlight is also directed at the proliferation of tourist areas that turn water catchment areas into permanent buildings, as well as settlements that stand in water-prone areas.

Handling in Greater Bandung, he explained, will be carried out after the completion of the flood control program in Karawang, Bekasi, and parts of Bogor Regency.

Dedi Mulyadi admitted that this arrangement would trigger resistance, but he emphasized that this step could not be postponed.

"If we want to complete the flood comprehensively, then the arrangement must be done now. Indeed, in the dry season the arrangement will cause reaction and resistance, but this must be taken," he concluded.
