Plenary PBNU Only Attended 26 Percent Of Management: Majority Reject Gus Yahya's Impeachment

JAKARTA The majority of the functionaries of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board rejected the discourse on impeaching the General Chair of PBNU, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya). They stated that they obeyed the call of the NU Elderly and Mustasyar Forum, which appealed for the organizational conflict to be stopped and resolved through the ISlah route.

Previously, the Elderly and Mustasyar Forum which gathered at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School on December 6 confirmed that the decision of the Syuriyah Daily Meeting to impeach the General Chair was invalid because it was against the NU AD/ART.

The rejection of the majority of the management was clearly reflected in the PBNU Plenary Meeting at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Monday night, December 9. Of the total 216 plenary members who were supposed to attend, only 58 people came about 26 percent, far from the minimum quorum limit.

Details of attendance show a lack of support. Mustasyar elements were only attended by 2 out of 29 people, Syuriyah 20 out of 53 people, Tanfidziyah 22 out of 62 people, and A'wan 7 out of 40 people. Of the PBNU Institution, only 5 of the 18 institutions were present, while the Autonomous Agency (Banom) was only 2 out of 14 Banoms.

This means that more than three-quarters of members choose not to come, a strong signal that impeachment measures do not have broad support within PBNU.

The Secretary-General of PBNU, Amin Said Husni, emphasized that the majority of the management will continue to follow the directions of the elderly.

"The majority of the management remains loyal to the elderly," said Amin in a statement received by the editors, Wednesday, December 10.

Amin also called the plenary meeting invalid. This meeting was invalid because it followed up on the illegal decision of the Syuriyah Daily Meeting.

The Plenary Meeting on December 9 was actually held following up on an invitation on December 2 which was charged with the agenda of determining the PBNU General Chairperson without involving the active General Chair. However, the Elderly and Mustasyar Forums have called for the agenda to be temporarily suspended while waiting for the resolution of organizational problems according to the AD/ART mechanism.

The majority of the management's support for the call for islah shows that NU wants calm, not conflict. Until almost 21.00 WIB the meeting has not yet started, without certainty whether the agenda will continue, given the absence of participants far from the quorum.
