Prosecutors Receive Refunds Of IDR 5.8 Billion From Corruption Cases On Jalan Mogoy-Merdey

MANOKWARI - The West Papua High Prosecutor's Office together with the Teluk Bintuni District Attorney received a refund of Rp5.8 billion from the corruption case of increasing the Mogoy-Merdey road in Teluk Bintuni Regency.

Acting Head of West Papua Prosecutor's Office, Luhur Istighfar, said the replacement money was the result of the confiscation of the defendant Akanius Yanus Misiro, who had permanent legal force.

"Right on the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day, we received the money from the execution which was then deposited into the general treasury account of the West Papua region," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 9.

He said the total recovery of state losses in the case reached Rp7.32 billion or 100 percent, because previously the defendant had deposited Rp1.44 billion into a regional cash account.

The implementation of the execution of replacement money is a form of law enforcement commitment to recover state financial losses, as well as strengthen accountability in development budget management.

"Optimization of asset confiscation and execution will continue to be carried out as a firm step to eradicate corruption in West Papua," he said.

According to him, the complete recovery of state losses is expected to provide a deterrent effect for the perpetrators, as well as strengthen efforts to prevent corruption in development projects in West Papua.

It should be noted that the budget for the Mogoy-Merdey road improvement project in Bintuni Bay is sourced from the West Papua Provincial Budget in 2023 at the West Papua PUPR Service worth IDR 8,535,162,123.

The project implementation should have started on August 25, 2023 and ended December 31, 2023, but was delayed and no critical contract handling steps were taken.

This condition resulted in the realization of the project implementation of only 51.11 percent, while the West Papua PUPR Office had paid 100 percent through Gloria Bintang Timur's CV account.

"The results of the calculation of state losses amounted to Rp7,326,372,972. Field inspections on September 11, 2024, work has not been completed 100 percent," he said.
