Israel Attacks South Lebanon Again

JAKARTA - Israeli warplanes have launched airstrikes in southern Lebanese regions, although a ceasefire agreement has been in effect since November last year.

The Lebanese state's National News Agency (NNA) on Tuesday, December 9, described Israeli warplanes targeting valleys in southern Lebanon where the cities of Izze and Romin are located, as well as the cities of Jbaa and the areas of Zefta and Mount Safi, causing several houses to be damaged in Jbaa.

The Lebanon government has not issued a statement regarding whether or not there were casualties.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Israeli soldiers on Tuesday morning said they were attacking infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah group in several areas in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, the army said the attack targeted a complex used by the Radwan Hezbollah Troops to conduct training and courses.

Israel claims both the targets and training activities carried out there violate the understanding between Israel and Lebanon and pose a threat to Israel's security.

Meanwhile, the official ceasefire took effect on November 27, 2024 after fighting between Hezbollah and Israel began in October 2023 and became a full-scale attack in September 2024. More than 4,000 people were killed and another 17,000 injured.

Under the ceasefire, the Israeli army was supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon this January, but only part were withdrawn and continued to maintain their presence at five border posts.
