The Speaker Of The House Of Representatives Regarding Foreign Assistance For The Sumatran Disaster: The Government Is Still Able

This was conveyed by Puan in response to assistance from foreign parties related to the handling of the Sumatran disaster which was rejected by the government.

"We focus on the government first, because the assistance is still sufficient. (The government) is still capable," said Puan at the DPR building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, December 9.

Puan also responded to the DPR's direct review of the disaster site. As is known, currently the DPR has entered a recess period, so that members of the council have an obligation to go down to their respective electoral districts.

Puan revealed that legislators have started to move directly to inspect disaster locations, both in Sumatra and disasters that have also occurred in other areas.

"Yes, now friends whose electoral districts in areas affected by the disaster have all gone down to these areas," said Puan.

"Then the friends who will come to help now are also getting ready to come there," continued the PDIP legislator for the Central Java electoral district.

Puan believes that the government has made maximum efforts to help disaster victims and restore the affected areas. For this reason, he asked the public to provide opportunities and trust in the government to deal with this hydrometeorological disaster.

"Indeed, now the government has deployed all resources to help areas affected by the disaster. So we should first focus on assistance from the internal government," concluded Puan.
