Megawati And Roby Sianturi Become Indonesian Flag Bearers At The 2025 SEA Games Opening Ceremony

JAKARTA volleyball star Megawati Hanggetri Pertiwi and long-distance runner Roby Syianturi will be the bearers of the Red and White flag at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Thailand SEA Games.

The opening ceremony of the biennial multi-branch sporting event was held at Rajamanggala Stadium, Bangkok, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, WIB night. There are 69 athletes from six sports (sports) representing Indonesia.

Chef de Mission (CdM) Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono confirmed that Megawati and Roby were chosen because they reflected the fighting character and optimism of the Indonesian contingent at the 2025 SEA Games.

"Megawati and Roby are symbols of the generation of Indonesian athletes who excel and inspire. We believe all athletes will compete with sportsmanship, pride, and focus on bringing home the best results for the nation," said Bayu in a statement received.

Megawati Hanggestri will wear a red kebaya combined with a tapist and a siger Lampung crown as a symbol of dignity and perseverance.

Roby Syianturi will appear in a formal black suit, ulos, and North Sumatra traditional headband, which symbolizes protection and blessing.

In addition, Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono, Vice CdM Zaenal Asikin, swimming athlete Samuel Maxson, equestrian athlete Brayen Brata Coolen and Karen Herjawan, as well as two chess athletes Irene Kharisma and Dewi Ardhani Anastasia, will also wear other Indonesian traditional clothes.

Roby, who is currently the holder of the national record number half marathon, said that he felt proud and touched for the trust given him. He admitted that he was nervous and excited to appear.

"Honestly, I didn't think I could be chosen as a flag bearer. I am grateful and this is an encouragement to compete. I will always give the best achievements for Indonesia," he said.

Megawati also felt the same thing, a volleyball player who is known as one of the most productive and influential players thanks to the consistency of his performance and strength in attack. He said that being a flag bearer is honor.

"This is a very special moment for me. Being a flag bearer means bringing the hopes of millions of Indonesians. I will carry out this task with pride and hopefully it can trigger enthusiasm for the whole team," said Megawati.

The Thailand 2025 SEA Games will take place from 9-29 December in Bangkok and Chonburi. Indonesia went there with a strength of 1,021 athletes and set a target of getting 80 gold medals.
