Garbage Truck Driver Dies Allegedly Fatigue, DKI DPRD: This Is A Violation Of Human Safety
JAKARTA - Member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Ali Lubis highlighted the death of Wahyudi (51), a garbage truck driver from the South Jakarta Environmental Service who died allegedly due to fatigue after excessive working hours.
Ali assessed that this issue was not only a matter of technical management, but had the potential to violate workers' safety rules and compliance with national regulations.
Ali revealed that findings from the field, including media reports, showed that queues at the Bantargebang TPST could reach 8 to 10 hours per day. This condition, according to him, makes the driver's total working hours exceed the standard physical work limits.
"This creates a total working hour that exceeds the reasonable limits as a human being, especially without adequate rest and with very heavy physical and mental stress," Ali said in his statement, Tuesday, December 9.
He assessed that such a work pattern puts severe pressure both physically and mentally. Ali emphasized that this problem did not occur once or twice. According to him, long queues take place every day and show negligence in workload management for a long time.
The condition of the queue for more than 8'10 hours that lasts every day, especially without good workload management, shows strong suspicions that the Department of Environment has allowed violations of this national rule to last for years. This is not just a technical problem, this is a matter of violating state rules and human safety," explained Ali.
Therefore, Ali urged the Department of Environment to carry out comprehensive reforms to SOPs in the field, especially regarding working hours and operational management of garbage truck drivers.
"The Department of Environment and Forestry must immediately limit the maximum time in line and working hours according to the law; providing mandatory rotation, shift, and break times; strengthen K3 facilities and periodic health checks; to speed up the loading process at the Bantargebang TPST with technical and managerial improvements," he said.
Ali said that Commission D of the DPRD would soon schedule an official summons to the Department of Environment to discuss this issue. This is because the case of Wahyudi's death must be a turning point for the DKI Provincial Government in ensuring the protection of workers.
"This is not just a clarification meeting, but a massive evaluation to ensure that no more workers' lives are sacrificed due to poor management," he said.
