The Government Provides IDR 1.25 Million Per Month Assistance For Students Victims Of The Sumatra Aceh Flood

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Wamendikti Saintek) Fauzan said the government provided a number of conveniences for flood victims in Aceh Sumatra, including living expenses assistance of IDR 1.25 million per month.

He made this statement during a working meeting (raker) with Commission X of the DPR at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, December 8.

He said the government provided a total budget provided of IDR 59.38 billion for 15,833 students. Later, the student will receive assistance for 3 months.

In addition to assistance, Fauzan added that his party also agreed to abolish the policy of drop out of students who were victims of flood disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"We agreed that no children would do it because they couldn't pay," he said.

When asked about the possibility of providing academic compensation, Fauzan said that this was the authority of each university.

He then mentioned a number of universities that compensate students who were victims of the Sumatra flood. According to him, this step should be followed by other universities.

"So disasters like this in Indonesia often, and then the responses from various universities vary, of course the spirit is to provide convenience or relief for affected students," he said.

"I think it's just an example, for example, such as UPI, then Unesa, and we hope that it will also become a positive tradition for universities in Indonesia," he added.
