Tohoku Shinkansen Temporarily Stopped After The 7.6 Guncang Magnitude Earthquake In Japan

JAKARTA - Tohoku Shinkansen's high-speed train service was temporarily suspended between Fukushima and Shin-Aomori stations following an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 which rocked northeastern Japan on Monday night.

The Japan Meteorology Agency reported that the earthquake triggered a tsunami warning on the coast of Hokkaido and the prefectures of Aomori and Iwate.

The earthquake occurred at 23.15 WIB, Monday, December 8 off the coast of Aomori at a depth of 50 kilometers. The initial magnitude of 7.2 was then revised to 7.6, with a potential tsunami of up to three meters.

The tsunami was recorded at 40 cm in Aomori and Hokkaido, as well as 50 cm in Iwate.

As reported by ANTARA from Kyodo-OANA, the Meteorological Agency warned that higher waves could sweep the northeastern coast of Japan.

The earthquake was recorded at an intensity of six Japanese scales from seven in several areas of Aomori. Vibrations were also felt to the central part of Tokyo.

There have been no reports of disturbances at the Hokkaido nuclear plant or the Aomori, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
