Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Gathers National Police Chiefs, Commanders And KaBINs, Asks For Quick-Measurable Disaster Management

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago held a coordination meeting (rakor) to discuss the follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's direction regarding the handling of natural disasters that hit a number of areas in Sumatra.

The coordination meeting which was held at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs building, Jakarta, was also attended by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and BIN Head Muhammad Herindra.

"All elements involved must move in an integrated manner according to their respective duties and authorities so that the President's directives can be followed up quickly, precisely, and measured in the field," said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 8.

The meeting was focused on strengthening coordination across ministries and institutions in order to accelerate the handling of the impact of disasters, starting from evacuating residents, distributing humanitarian aid to restoring infrastructure and basic services.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs emphasized the importance of synergy of all elements of the government so that steps to handle in the field run integrated and effective in accordance with the President's direction.

During the meeting, he also emphasized that the National Police, TNI, and BIN had a strategic role in supporting disaster management, both in terms of humanity, security, and national stability.

He asked all ranks to strengthen cooperation and preparedness so that the dynamics in the field can be managed properly and in line with government policies.

"The National Police and the TNI have an important role in supporting handling in the field, including security and humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, BIN plays a role in strengthening monitoring and analyzing the situation. All must work synergically," he said.

As the coordinating ministry, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs ensures that the process of synchronizing policies and coordinating the implementation between agencies continues, both at the central and regional levels so that the government's response to disasters can be carried out quickly and measurably.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also emphasized that efforts to deal with disasters and recovery in affected areas require the support of a conducive situation so that all government policies can run optimally.

For this reason, stability of public security and order is an important prerequisite in supporting the smooth running of government work in the field.

He also appealed to the public to maintain order and convey their aspirations in an orderly, peaceful manner and in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations.

The Coordinating Minister requested that all parties prioritize mutual respect and not be easily provoked, both in public spaces and in digital spaces so that the security and public order situation remains conducive.

In addition to discussing the follow-up to the President's directives regarding disaster management, the meeting also touched on the readiness to secure the celebrations of Christmas 2025 and New Year's 2026.

The discussion was carried out as an anticipatory step to maintain national stability and security, along with increasing community mobility at the end of this year.
