Flood-Longsor Losses In North Sumatra Reaches IDR 9.98 Trillion

The Governor of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) Bobby Afif Nasution estimates that losses due to floods, landslides, and flash floods hit 18 districts/cities in the province reaching more than Rp9.98 trillion.

"The figure of more than Rp9.98 trillion is the total total damage to the North Sumatra region," Bobby said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 8.

The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov), he continued, will continue to make full efforts to accelerate the handling of floods, landslides, and flash floods in the North Sumatra region.

The sectors that suffered losses included 23 national road infrastructure, then three national bridges, 25 roads and five provincial bridge units.

Hydrometeorological disasters have hit 18 districts/cities in North Sumatra since Tuesday (25/11), namely North Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, Sibolga, and Humbang Haangkalan.

Then, Padangsidempuan, Pakpak Bharat, Mandailing Natal, Medan, Binjai, Langkat, Deli Serdang, Nias, Tebing Tinggi, Serdang Bedagai, Asahan, Batu Bara, and Padang Lawas.

"For agriculture along 4,359 meters of irrigation canals, 26 embankment points, 38,878 hectares of rice fields, and puso 5,750 hectares. Plantation covering an area of 28,328 hectares, and 161,949 farms," said Bobby.

In the education sector, he explained, there were 397 damaged schools consisting of SMA, SMK, SLB, SMP, and SD. The health sector was recorded as 18 hospitals, 25 health centers, 19 auxiliary health centers, and 9 units of polyndes.

"The housing was recorded at 99,169 housing units that were affected, and 131 houses of worship were affected in the North Sumatra region," said Bobby.

Data from the North Sumatra Province Regional Disaster Management Agency as of today states that 1,585,576 people were affected, 42,643 refugees, 650 people were injured, 338 people died, and 136 people were still missing.

"The search, of course we will always do it. We will continue to update the victims who are declared missing later. We will continue to try to access them," said Bobby.

The governor also stated that until now there are still 13 sub-districts that are still isolated by land route in the North Sumatra region.

"There are 13 sub-districts that are still isolated. In terms of distribution, all aid has been reached, and isolated is land access," said Bobby.
