Man In Medan Caught Buying Cigarettes Using Fake Money, Immediately Silenced By Mob
MEDAN - Police handle a case of counterfeit money in Medan, North Sumatra. One suspect was arrested.
Sunggal Police Chief, Kompol Yasir Ahmadi, said that the suspect had the initials V (34), a resident of Tanjung Selamat Village, Medan Tuntungan District, Medan.
The arrest of the perpetrators stemmed from a routine patrol of officers on Jalan Bunga Raya, Medan. At that point police saw the suspect being mobbed in a ditch.
"The suspect was arrested by the mob for buying cigarettes using counterfeit rp20,000. This perpetrator has repeatedly used the counterfeit money," he was quoted as saying by Antara on Tuesday, May 25.
During the investigation, the suspect claimed to have obtained the counterfeit money from a friend. Furthermore, the officer took V along with the evidence to sunggal police station for further investigation.
"This is still under investigation, but against the suspect we have detained in the RTP Sunggal Police And we suspect in violation of article 36 paragraph 3 of Law No. 7/2011, on Currency with the threat of a sentence of 15 years in prison," he said.
