Minister Nusron Wahid Reveals RTRW 3 Provinces Experience Post-Disaster Changes In Sumatra

JAKARTA - Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid revealed that regional spatial planning (RTRW) in three provinces experienced massive changes after the Sumatra disaster.

"Not to mention the changes to Regency/City RTRW and three provinces, namely West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh after this disaster, the impact will definitely be a massive change in RTRW," said Nusron as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 8.

The change in RTRW, he continued, would prioritize disaster mitigation.

"Yesterday, the meeting, including the Minister of Forestry, was also evaluating several gardens that used to be the result of the release of forest areas. Most likely with this disaster there will be a massive evaluation and one of the big decisions is to return it to its forest function again," he said.

The spatial planning revision in the three provinces is needed in order to prevent the same disaster that hit Sumatra from happening again in the future.

According to Nusron, the problem of flood disasters in Sumatra is because there is no absorption buffer in water discharge, because the water absorption buffer used to be growth, trees disappeared due to land conversion.

"Then how? Return what used to be a space for trees that are now being replaced into space for others. Return the space to trees so that the water absorption is maintained," he said.

He also said that currently the government is still in the phase of a disaster emergency response situation in Sumatra.

Sebagai informasi, Menteri ATR/Kepala BPN Nusron Wahid akan melakukan evaluasi tata ruang pasca-bencana banjir bandang dan tanah longsor yang menimpa wilayah Aceh, Sumatera Utara, dan Sumatera Barat.

Nusron menyampaikan bahwa langkah ini bertujuan memastikan pemanfaatan ruang selaras dengan karakter lingkungan serta meminimalkan risiko bencana di masa mendatang.

Nusron said that this step aims to ensure the use of space is in line with environmental character and minimize disaster risks in the future.
