Ministry Of Transportation Arrests 4 Illegal Coal Miners At CA Teluk Adang, East Kalimantan

The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) managed to secure four perpetrators who carried out coal mining without a permit in the Teluk Adang Nature Reserve (CA) area, East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

Head of the Forestry Law Enforcement Center (Gakkum) of the Kalimantan Region of the Ministry of Forestry Leonardo Gultom explained that his party together with the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of East Kalimantan and Denpom VI/1-4 Penajam Paser Utara secured PT, J, GM, and W, when carrying out coal mining activities in conservation areas.

"In the context of protecting conservation areas in East Kalimantan, in this case CA Teluk Adang, from illegal coal mining activities that will certainly cause serious damage to the nature reserve area. Area security and law enforcement are very important and one of our priorities, we will explore and reveal other actors and actors, both individuals and corporations involved in this illegal activity," LeonardoGultom said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 8.

Together with the four perpetrators, four heavy excavator types and one lever truck (dump truck) were also secured.

The four perpetrators have been named suspects and detained at the Samarinda Police Detention Center (Rutan). They are threatened with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to IDR 5 billion.

Meanwhile, Director General of Gakkum Kemenhut Dwi Januanto Nugroho said that in order to preserve the conservation area, his party is committed to seriously protecting by enforcing the law, both individuals and corporations, which carries out destructive activities against conservation areas.

This activity, he continued, is a form of the government's commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of forest areas according to its function.

"Collaboration and synergy between conservation area managers and other law enforcement officers with the Directorate General of Forestry Gakkum in the region is very important to strengthen regional protection and security, in order to reduce the rate of degradation of forest areas in Indonesia," said Dwi Januanto.
