Assumption Trump Claims Trade Tariffs Become A Tool For Ending War In The World
JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump claims the trade and tariff policies he currently applies are a tool to stop warfare in the world.
"I ended eight wars, as a matter of trade and for tariffs," Trump told reporters on arrival at the Kennedy Center performance center in Washington DC, Sunday local time.
Trump said tariff approaches provide greater benefits for national security purposes.
"If we go through another tariff route, and of course there are options there, this cannot provide true national security as well as we currently have," he said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, December 8.
"This step is fast and very strong," he said.
Responding to questions regarding whether income from tariffs should be used to pay off state debt and not to pay dividends to citizens, Trump said, "We will. I agree with that".
"However, I think we have made a huge profit through tariffs so that we can also give dividends to middle-income people ... and also low-income people," said the US President.
President Trump is known to have proposed that state revenue from trade rates be used as dividends of US$2,000 for the public in the form of direct transfers.
However, Finance Minister Scott Bessent said the dividend could be delivered "in various forms" in addition to cash checks.
Trump also said that through Truth Social, the current tariff system is "far more direct, less troublesome, and faster" than any other policy.
"Acceleration, strength, and certainty are of course important factors to ensure the success of work in a sustainable and successful manner," he said.
