Losing Again, AS Roma Failed To Catch Inter Milan
JAKARTA - AS Roma failed to meet their target of chasing the leader of the Italian Serie A standings Inter Milan. The reason is, Roma lost points for the second time in a row. In the duel against host Cagliari at the SantElia Stadium, Sunday, December 8, 2025 evening WIB, Roma lost 1-0.
Roma again failed to get full points. In the previous match, Roma had to admit Napoli's lead 1-0. The disappointing result actually motivated the Giallorossi players to get up.
However, the target was not achieved when Roma visited Cagliari's headquarters. After losing Zeki Celik who got a red card, Roma also had to admit the advantage of the hosts.
This is Cagliari's first victory since September 19, 2025. Previously, they were unable to win during the last nine matches.
The success of winning three points made them able to improve their rankings. Cagliari managed to get away from the relegation zone by occupying the 14. Now, they are pocketing point 14 or four points ahead of Pisa who are ranked 18th or the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Roma are stuck in fourth place with 27. Three points adrift of Inter who are at the top of the standings.
The match itself was fierce. Cagliari has threatened Roma's goal through Michael Folorunsho and Sebastiano Esposito. Only they failed to take advantage of the opportunity. The score remained 0-0 when the first half was over.
Entering the second half, Roma, who tried to suppress the home defense, instead lost a player. Celik committed a strong foul on Folorunsho which made the referee give a red card in the 52nd minute.
Initially, the referee also awarded Cagliari a penalty. However, after being reviewed via VAR, the violation occurred outside the penalty box so that Cagliari only got a free kick.
Cagliari tried to take advantage of the advantages in the number of players. They put pressure on Gian Piero Gasperini's team.
The host's efforts finally paid off when Gianluca Gaetano broke into Roma's goal in the 82nd minute. The goal started with Sebastiano Esposito's corner which Gaetano received.
He then controlled the ball and Gaetano's half-volley shot immediately crossed the Mile Svilar goal.
