Geological Agency Identifys Oil And Gas Potential In Lariang Enrekang

BANDUNG - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has started an air survey for data acquisition at Congung Lariang, West Sulawesi, and Enrekang, South Sulawesi to identify potential sediment basins and open opportunities for exploration of new oil and gas (oil and gas) resources.

Head of the Geological Survey Center, KESDM Geological Agency, Edy Slameto revealed that this activity aims to make the acquisition of Full Tensor Airborne Gravity (FT/AGG) data can produce subsurface information with better resolution and increase investor interest in the two basins.

These two basins are categorized as prospective basics. We hope that the resulting data will have a better resolution and increase investment attraction in both basins," said Edy as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, December 7.

The total air survey trajectory reaches about 33,000 kilometers using two aircraft modes, namely fixed wings and helicopters.

He added, for relatively flat areas, a fixed wing type aircraft is used, while for areas with hilly topography helicopters are used.

"With these two modes, we are optimistic that the completion of the 33,000 kilometer trajectory can be completed in 32'35 days, with weather records supporting and no incidents occurring," he said.

Edy explained that the selection of Lariang and Enrekang also considered the existence of oil and gas-producing basins in the surrounding area.

In the south of the two basins, there is Sengkang Basin which has produced gas and is one of the suppliers of electrical energy in South Sulawesi.

"It is hoped that Lariang and Enrekang can also produce new findings of oil or gas for energy needs in the Sulawesi and Indonesia regions," he said.

Through this survey, he said, the government wants to obtain more accurate and high-resolution subsurface data in order to increase investor interest in the oil and gas working area in the area.

"As President Prabowo's program regarding energy security, massive exploration of sediment basins is very important," he said.

According to him, with more data provided by the government, investor interest is expected to increase so that opportunities for the discovery of new oil and gas fields are getting bigger.
