Arjasari Bandung Landslide, 100 Families Evacuated

JAKARTA - The Bandung Resort Police, West Java, together with a joint team moved quickly to evacuate residents after the landslide occurred in Condong Village, Wargaluyu Village, Arjasari District.

Pameungpeuk Police Chief AKP Asep Dedi said about 100 families had to be evacuated from vulnerable locations.

"After receiving the report, we together with related elements immediately went to the location, evacuating around 100 families for fear of further landslides, and taking the victim who was successfully evacuated to the hospital," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 5.

The landslide occurred on the slopes of Mount Sinapeiul which has a height of about 80 meters.

"The landslide is a collapsing material from the slopes of Mount Sinapeiul with a height of about 80 meters," he added.

High rainfall around the area is considered to trigger landslides and cause four residents' houses to be hit by soil material.

The search for victims who are still buried cannot be continued because it is dark and the rain is still hitting, so it is feared that the soil condition is still moving.

Meanwhile, the West Java BPBD Youth Expert Public Relations Pranata, Hadi Rahmat, confirmed the incident. They are conducting an assessment.

"The incident is true but the complete data is still waiting from the team in the field," he said.

The joint elements involved in handling at the location include the Bandung Police, the Military Rayon Commander, the Arjasari Sub-district Head, the Wargaluyu Village Head, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and local residents.
