Sumatra Floods: When The Facts And Data Of WALHI Are Opposite To The Government's Speech

JAKARTA - Floods and landslides in North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh have claimed up to 867 people as of Friday, December 5, 2025. Meanwhile, 521 people were declared missing based on BNPB data. Overall, the number of affected victims reached 3.3 million people spread across 50 districts/cities.

This flood issue dragged the name of Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) who served as Minister of Forestry in 2009-2014, as well as President Prabowo Subianto who supported the expansion of oil palm plantations which were considered to cause flooding and erosion.

WALHI and Greenpeace found data that flooding in 3 areas of the island of Sumatra was an ecological disaster. Check out more information on VOI.id.
