Malang Surrounded By Floods, Walkot Calls The Cause Of Sedimentation Because Of Waste

JAKARTA - Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat revealed that the flood during heavy rains on Thursday (4/12) was caused by a waste deposit that triggered sedimentation in the canal, thus clogging the flow of water.

"Air tidak bisa masuk ke dalam, meskipun saluran sudah kami buat dan ada babak kontrol, tadi saya melihat, tetapi sedimen sampah yang ada di sana sangat tinggi," kata Wahyu dilameninjau kondisi warga terdampak banjir di Kelurahan Purwodadi, Kecamatan Blimbing, Kota Malang, Jawa Timur, Jumat, 5 Desember dilansir ANTARA.

Wahyu said sediment sediment, because of the blockage of garbage, one of which was found in a water channel located on Jalan Letjen Sutoyo. He found this condition when conducting a survey of the location of the flood point that occurred on Thursday (4/12).

From the results of the review, the Malang City Government (Pemkot) has prepared steps to dredge sediments to reopen the waterway so that similar incidents do not happen again.

Not only sedimentation deposits due to waste, Wahyu said the flood was also triggered by the bozem condition in Tunggulwulung which could no longer accommodate the high water discharge.

"So if this bozem accommodates, we can definitely predict that Malang will flood," he said.

Wahyu stated that currently in the Jalan Soekarno-Hatta area, a drainage project was being built that stretches from the north to the south and is accompanied by the implementation of cuts in the area towards Jalan Kedawung and Jalan Letjen Sutoyo.

It is known that Jalan Kedawung and Jalan Letjen Sutoyo were included in 39 areas affected by the flood yesterday afternoon.

The project is aimed at overcoming the flood problems in Malang City.

"Including next year, we have now auctioned for a suspect around the Klojen to Metro," he said.

He is optimistic that when the drainage development is complete, the flood problem that hit Malang City can be completed in 2026.

However, Wahyu realizes that flood management efforts cannot only rely on the role of local governments, but there needs to be concern and public awareness to protect the environment. "Come on, the community together realize this," he said.
