Passing Flash Floods To Rivers, TNI-Basarnas Evacuates Pregnant Women In Agam, West Sumatra

JAKARTA - TNI soldiers from Infantry Battalion 133/YS Kodam XX/TIB evacuated a pregnant woman named Elisa Oktaviani (28 years old), a flood victim in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, using a stretcher.

"On Thursday, December 4, 2025, personnel from Yonif 133/YS Kodam XX/TIB carried out the evacuation of a pregnant woman who was about to give birth on behalf of Mrs. Elisa Oktaviani (28), in Bungo Campago Village, North Malak, Agam Regency," as quoted in a written statement from Battalion 133/YS Kodam XX/TIB received in Jakarta, Friday, confiscated by Antara.

The personnel of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) also assisted in the evacuation process.

From the video received, it can be seen that TNI soldiers assisted by Basarnas officers walked slowly through a rocky road, then crossed a river as high as an adult's knee while carrying pregnant women on a stretcher to the nearest health post.

Fallen trees and uphill roads in the forest are also obstacles that must be passed. The path can only be accessed by pedestrians.

"Using a stretcher due to road conditions that are still affected by the flood in the West Sumatra region," the statement said.

Floods and landslides have hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since late November 2025. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed relevant ministries and institutions, local governments, TNI, Polri to accelerate disaster management.

Various steps have been taken by the government to restore the lives of people affected by the disaster. Food and non-food assistance continues to be distributed to isolated areas.

The vital routes that have been cut off are currently being repaired so that they can be passed. Various important infrastructures, such as electricity and telecommunications, are also being rebuilt.

The government also ensures that the supply of fuel oil (BBM) and LPG in general is sufficient to meet the needs of the community. However, distribution access in a number of areas using land routes is still hampered by infrastructure damage.

Reconstruction and rehabilitation are prepared so that people affected by disasters can rise and carry out normal activities.
