Deputy Chief Of Police Orders To Accelerate Identification Of Bodies Of Aceh Disaster Victims In Sumatra
Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri) Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the National Police has accelerated the process of identifying the bodies of victims of landslides and floods in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh.
This was conveyed by Dedi after reviewing the service of the National Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team at Bhayangkara Padang Hospital, West Sumatra.
Dedi emphasized the importance of accelerating identification to prevent the condition of the corpse from getting worse. He said the fingerprint method was the main technique used because of its speed and level of accuracy.
"This identification must be carried out as soon as possible. One of our speeds to identify DVI is with fingerprints," said Dedi in a written statement, Friday, December 5.
According to him, the fingerprint method has an accuracy of up to 99 percent. After fingerprint data is obtained, the officer will match it with the antemortem data from the family and postmortem data to confirm the identity of the victim.
If the condition of the corpse does not allow fingerprint collection, DNA examination is the last step. DNA samples from the family will be immediately sent to the Police laboratory in Jakarta.
"We have a DNA lab that is quite fast in Jakarta. Maybe within three days the DNA test can be directly submitted to the family," said Dedi.

During his visit, Dedi also met the families of the victims who had been identified. He submitted the identity documents for the bodies and death certificates, as well as conveying his condolences from the National Police Chief to the families of the victims.
