GIS Supports Development Of Mobility Foundation And Batam Economic Growth

JAKARTA - Batam as an industrial, trade and international investment center continues to strengthen its competitiveness through the development of land transportation infrastructure. Support infrastructure such as roads, airport and port development, is the backbone of inter-regional connectivity that drives the economy. However, geological conditions and the impact of climate change are challenges in infrastructure development and development as long-term investment.

PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) in collaboration with the Batam Entrepreneurship Agency (BP) held a seminar themed Material Innovation and Solutions for the Sustainable Batam Infrastructure in the Form of Proud Bangun Indonesia at the Ballroom Hotel Harris Batam Center, Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The seminars, which were attended by around 100 professional practitioners in the construction sector, presented speakers including Deputy BP Batam, Mouris Limanto ST, Director of Operations for SIG, Reni Wulandari, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Dr. Ilham Akbar Habibie and Ir. Prastiwo Anggoro as Chairman of the International Certification Bapel PII, Chairman of the Indonesian Construction Expert Association, Prof. Iswandi Imran, and Dr. Cyrillus Winama Kurniawan of PT Pratama Widya representing a construction contractor and consultant company.

According to Dr. Ilham Akbar Habibie, decarbonization in construction is a mission that must be realized by current engineers or construction experts. Green transitions in construction are part of regenerative and human-centric reindustrialization. This concept is needed in Indonesia to ensure construction development takes into account future long-term needs, ranging from increasing the capabilities of construction experts, to synergies between governments, construction experts, academics, professional associations, and private/industry.

Deputy BP Batam, Mouris Limanto ST in his presentation explained that BP Batam's sustainable infrastructure development includes mobility infrastructure, drainage & green infrastructure (slonop city), integrated utility infrastructure (multi-utility tunnel), waste management infrastructure, disaster mitigation infrastructure, renewable energy infrastructure, and smart city infrastructure.

"The development that is BP Batam's vision is to create an advanced and sustainable economic zone as a contribution to Indonesia Gold 2045. Therefore, infrastructure development will be directed to be environmentally friendly, integrated and efficient, improve the quality of life of the community, and support investment and economic growth," said Mouris Limanto.

In the seminar involving professional practitioners in the construction sector, SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari said the innovations carried out by SIG in the process of producing cement and product designs, in order to present low-carbon cement and derivative products, as well as in accordance with the designation, including answering development challenges in areas with special conditions such as Batam which has soft soil conditions and sulfate.

In addition to low-carbon cement, SIG also introduces a series of construction solutions that are resistant to extreme environments, include special type cement, soil stabilization, as well as concrete innovations such as ThruCrete (pore concrete) to reduce inundation and absorb water directly into the ground) and SpeedCrete (fast concrete dry for road repairs) to increase stuntability and infrastructure cost efficiency.

Deputy President Director of SIG, Andriano Hosny Panangian in his speech emphasized the Company's commitment to providing solutions that are oriented towards sustainable development. He argues that the world of construction is currently moving towards decarbonization. GIS plays an active role in supporting Net Zero Emission targets through material and technological innovation.

"We believe that Batam development must be in line with global trends to remain competitive and sustainable. Through this forum, we invite all parties to actively discuss, explore project opportunities, and jointly realize Batam as a sustainable development model in Indonesia. Hopefully this seminar will produce strategic ideas and partnerships that have a real impact on the future of Batam and Indonesia," said Andriano Hosny Panangian.
