Vice President Gibran Reviews A Subsidiary Bridge In Aceh Which Has Been Swept Away By Floods

JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka reviewed the condition of the Anak Laut Bridge in West Gosong Telaga Village, Aceh Singkil Regency, Aceh, which seemed collapsed because it was swept away by flash floods.

At that location, the Vice President evaluated infrastructure conditions and heard technical reports from local governments and disaster management teams.

Based on the information gathered, there are two canoe boats that can take residents to cross the river, after the concrete bridge is destroyed and cut off access.

The vice president also received a report from the Regent of Aceh Singkil, Safriadi Oyon regarding the causes of flooding and landslides in the area due to extreme rains that have hit since November 19, 2025.

"The disaster occurred due to extreme rain intensity. So here it has never been like this, according to the history 200 years ago, sir, this is what happened. This is a flood and landslide," Safriadi said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 4.

The disaster hit at least nine sub-districts and 67 villages in Aceh Singkil which caused extensive damage to settlements, infrastructure, and forced hundreds of residents to flee before the situation gradually improved.

According to Safriadi, in an effort to deal with disasters, the local government together with the TNI and Polri are trying to open road access, distribute aid, and improve affected infrastructure.

Safriadi explained that various main accesses had been cut off due to damage to bridges and roads, so that logistics distribution had to be carried out with rubber canoes and motorboats.

He requested that the central government continue the construction of flood safety embankments and repair of damaged infrastructure, including bridges and access to areas affected by landslides. According to him, the area is prone to annual flooding due to land subsidence after the Aceh 'Nias earthquake.

Safriadi also welcomed the direction of the Vice President who ensured that the central government would support the acceleration of recovery and rebuilding of damaged infrastructure.

"We hope that Aceh Singkil can recover soon. We convey it to the Vice President, the most urgent thing at this time is clean water, logistics, access improvement, and the continuation of the embankment construction. Hopefully, the assistance will be realized soon," he said.

Continuing his visit, the Vice President headed to Syekh Hamzah Fansyuri Airport to leave for the Soewondo Air Force Base, Medan, North Sumatra.

At that location, the Vice President inspected the logistics warehouse in the Soewondo Air Base area to ensure the readiness of assistance for disaster-affected areas in the northern part of Sumatra.
