Jonathan Christie Optimistic To Have A Chance At BWF World Tour Finals 2025

JAKARTA Jonatan Christie assessed that his efforts to win the title in the 2025 BWF World Tour Finals (WTF) this month in China will not go easy even though he is optimistic that his chances in the closing tournament of the season will still exist.

The 2018 Asian Games gold medalist said that in this annual edition the competitors faced were much more varied in age so that competition to be the best would be fierce.

"Chou Tien Chen, for example, at that age he is still competing. Maybe one of the athletes who competed the most this year. In my opinion, the game didn't really go down either," said Jonathan.

Among the eight men's singles who will compete in the 2025 WTF BWF, Chou Tien Chen is the oldest. The badminton player from China Taipei is currently 35 years old.

Jonathan said that apart from experienced names, this year's edition of the closing tournament of the season was also decorated with young badminton players, such as Kunlavut Vitidsarn and Christo Popov, who of course had to be wary of.

"So, in my opinion, it is quite interesting and it is necessary to be aware of who the opponent is because everything is definitely the best this year," he said.

Apart from most likely fighting the names above, there are also other challenges from Li Shifeng, Kodai Naraoka, Anders Antonsen, and Shi Yuqi.

Of all the men's singles that performed this year, only Popov did not get the title at the World Tour. However, the French badminton player managed to enter four semifinals (China Masters, Singapore Open, Japan Open, and Hong Kong Open) as well as one runner-up at the French Open 2025.

Jonathan said that currently the preparations he made for the tournament had reached 75 percent, including trying to fix non-technical aspects.

"So far, one and a half weeks, after the Australian Open yesterday, it was actually okay and much better. The focus has also been on BWF World Tour Finals," said Jonatan.

Jonathan collected three titles in 2025, the last from the Super 500 Hylo Open last November. Prior to that, he was also the best in the Super 500 Korea Open and Super 750 Denmark Open tournaments.

The BWF World Tour Finals 2025 will take place on 17-21 December in Hangzhou, China. Indonesia sent a total of five representatives there with Putri Kusuma Wardani, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, and Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
