West Sumatra Governor Letter To President Asking To Cancel TKD Cuts To Handle Disasters

West Sumatra (West Sumatra) Governor Mahyeldi wrote to President Prabowo Subianto to cancel the 2026 regional transfer budget (TKD) cuts of IDR 2.6 trillion to help deal with the hydrometeorological disasters that hit the area.

"In the midst of efforts to overcome and recover post-detaster hydrometeorology, West Sumatra really needs adequate budget support," said West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi in Padang City, Thursday, December 4.

Apart from the President, the Governor of West Sumatra also wrote to the Minister of Finance so that the efficiency of the TKD for the area can be returned. Because, at this time the area really needs support for disaster management.

Mahyeldi explained that the return of the allocation of these efficiency funds would be a reinforcement for affected areas in efforts to overcome, rehabilitate and reconstruct infrastructure after being hit by a disaster. Moreover, the damage that occurred was quite heavy and spread across many regions.

The West Sumatra Provincial Government noted that hydrometeorological disasters caused a lot of damage in a number of areas. In detail, 1,018 houses were heavily damaged, 1,787 houses were moderately damaged, 317 housing units were lost, 94 bridges were damaged, and a number of district, provincial and national roads were also affected.

"Public facilities and houses are badly damaged. Currently, our focus is to ensure that the basic needs of the community are met while continuing to open access to affected areas so that aid can reach quickly and evenly," he explained.

Meanwhile, for the long term Mahyeldi said, local governments will focus their attention on the economic recovery of the community and comprehensive improvements to affected infrastructure.

"Of course this requires a very large budget," continued Governor Mahyeldi.

He expressed his appreciation for the support that has been given by various parties. Assistance continues to flow from the central government through ministries, SOEs, migrant communities, social institutions to a number of provincial governments.

Based on data from the Ministry of Finance, TKD cuts for West Sumatra 2026 reached IDR 2,628,893,437,000. These cuts include 19 districts and cities including the West Sumatra Provincial Government.
