Trump Frees US Congressman Defendant In Bribery Case After Giving Gracy To Former Honduras President
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump released a member of Congress from the Democratic Party who was caught in a bribery or gratification case.
Trump argued that this pardon was based on a justice system that had been "armed" by its predecessor former President Joe Biden.
"I hereby announce my full and unconditional buildup to beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar ... I don't know you, but you can sleep well tonight Your nightmare is finally over!" Trump said on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday local time, quoted from AFP.
Cuellar and his wife have faced a number of charges of bribery cases worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from oil and gas companies partly owned by the Azerbaijan Government.
This case is based on accusations from the US public prosecutor (JPU).
The couple has denied allegations that the case has been on trial since April 2025.
"I would like to thank President Trump for his extraordinary leadership and for the time he has taken to see the facts," Cuellar said in response to the pardon in a post on X on Wednesday local time.

Trump, without providing evidence in his defense of Cuellar and his wife, said the administration of former President Joe Biden had "armed the Justice System against their political opponents."
He added that Cuellar had spoken out against Biden's "Open Border and 'Disaster'."
Trump, who has also been caught in legal cases in his past, since taking office for a second term this year, has given several legal cases to a number of political figures.
One of them was former President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was sentenced to 45 years in prison to be released from a West Virginia prison on Monday this week. Hernandez was previously proven to have smuggled 400 tons of cocaine from Honduras into the US.
Trump has previously offered legal assistance to a Democratic politician, by pardoning Illinois Governor Rod Blagojerich for a political corruption case in February 2025.
