Putin Rejects A Number Of US Proposals For Russia-Ukraine Peace

JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin said several points of proposal in the United States (US) plan to end the war in Ukraine could not be accepted by the Kremlin.

This condition shows any agreement is far from being reached despite intensive back and forth diplomacy by the American envoys.

US President Donald Trump began the most intensive diplomatic effort to stop fighting since Russia launched a massive invasion of neighboring countries nearly four years ago.

However, the peace effort is once again facing demands that are difficult to reconcile, especially regarding whether Ukraine should hand over its territory to Russia and how Ukraine can keep it safe from Russian aggression in the future.

Putin in a statement published on Thursday, December 4, his five-hour talks with US envoys this week "needed" and "benefit," but also "difficult work." Some proposals were unacceptable to the Kremlin.

Meanwhile, Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are scheduled to meet Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, on Thursday in Miami for further negotiations, according to a senior Trump administration official.

Putin spoke to India Today's TV channel before his visit to New Delhi on Thursday. Prior to the full interview broadcast, the Russian government news agency, Tass and RIA Novosti, cited Putin's statements in it.

TASS quoted Putin as saying in the interview, at Tuesday's negotiations at the Kremlin, both sides "must discuss every point" of the US peace proposal, "That's why the negotiations took so long."

"These are important, very concrete negotiations," said the Russian president.

There are some provisions that Moscow says are ready to be discussed, while others "we cannot agree," Putin said, adding "this is a difficult job."

Trump said on Wednesday, Witkoff and Kushner left their marathon sessions with confidence he wanted to end the war.
