JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang City together with a joint team carried out flood management that hit a number of points in Malang City due to heavy rains, Thursday.
Head of BPBD Malang City Prayitno in Malang City, East Java, stated that handling flood events prioritizes disaster response processes that prioritize public safety.
"We are in the disaster response process, we save the family. The electricity is turned off, because we apologize for being threatened with a short circuit," said Prayitno as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 4.
BPBD also coordinates with the heads of RT and RW in each to determine the evacuation points for residents whose housing is damaged. Then his party will distribute ready-to-eat food and a family kit.
He said that based on a temporary report received, flood events in Malang City occurred in several residential areas in Purwantoro Village, which borders Lowokwaru Village, Purwodadi Village, and Blimbing Village.
Prayitno revealed that he would conduct a survey in the Galunggung Street area.
One of the residential areas affected by the flood is Jalan Kedawung 1, Lowokwaru Village, Lowokwaru District, Malang City.
"On the highway it is about 80 centimeters if it is here (Kedawung 1 Street) about 150-160 centimeters. I also checked with Purwodadi, I sent a rubber boat there," he said.
Flood conditions on Jalan Kedawung 1, are now starting to gradually recede, but joint officers remain on standby at the location.
Asked about the cause of the flood, Prayitno stated that one of them was due to the higher intensity of rainfall than in recent times.
"What is clear is that national information that rainfall has indeed increased by 40 percent due to climate change," he said.
According to ANTARA's observation, flooding also caused congestion on several roads, such as Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, Bunga Brown Street, Jalan Kalpataru, Jalan Kedawung, Jalan Letjen Sutoyo towards Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Ciliwung, and Jalan Sunandar Priyo Sudarmo towards Jalan WR Supartman.
The accumulation of currents occurred on the side of the route leading to the center of Malang City and to several areas of Malang City.
Police officers appear busy regulating traffic congestion and giving directions to motorists to have a number of alternative roads to avoid congestion.
