Muzani: The Government Has Calculation On The Determination Of National Disasters

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani said that the government has its own calculation of whether or not the option of implementing a national disaster status is related to disaster conditions that occur in various regions in Sumatra.

However, he assessed that the post-disaster situation in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh, had been handled more and more well based on reports from the regent.

"The government has calculations about whether this disaster will be upgraded to a national disaster status or not," said Muzani at the DPR building, Jakarta, Thursday, December 4.

He said inter-village access, between sub-districts, inter-districts, and several places were cut off due to the hydrometeorological disaster. However, from day to day, according to him, the cut access has begun to reconnect.

According to him, the police, soldiers, BNPB officers, and volunteers also continue to work in the field.

The proudest, according to him, is the existence of various forms of assistance from other communities to support the disaster-affected areas.

"Community participation is carried out to provide empathy, sympathy, support, extraordinary support in the three provinces. Of course this is a capital for us," he said.

On the other hand, Muzani assessed that the government has not set a national disaster status because currently conditions at the disaster site have started to become clear after electricity and fuel entered. Even so, he did not deny that there were still shortcomings.

Previously, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that 770 people died as a result of flash floods and landslides in Sumatra.

The update on the number of disaster victims in the three provinces was conveyed by the Head of the BNPB Abdul Muhari online on Wednesday (3/12).
