JAKARTA - PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk (INRU) has again become the center of public attention and is often associated with issues of ownership and environmental impact.
Meanwhile, the company, formerly known as PT Inti Indorayon Utama Tbk, is known as one of the largest pulp producers in Indonesia and has been established since April 26, 1983 in North Sumatra, this company initially produced eucalyptus raw paper porridge and fiber.
According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Thursday, December 4, 2025, INRU's shares were first listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and the Surabaya Stock Exchange on May 16, 1990. The stock code is maintained until now after the two exchanges joined into the IDX.
Previously, Indorayon had drawn polemics in the late 1990s and as part of the restructuring process, the GMS on November 15, 2000 officially changed the company's name to PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk. Production activities were resumed in 2003 with claims to use more environmentally friendly technology.
Currently, Toba Pulp Lestari stated that her vision is to become a sustainable pulp eukaliptus producer capable of competing in the national and international markets and providing added value for employees.
Historically, the company was founded by national entrepreneur Sukanto Tanoto. However, the structure of the shareholders has changed over time. In 2021, the majority control will be in the hands of Pinnacle Company Pte. Ltd., which has been the main shareholder since 2007.
Entering 2025, the composition of ownership has changed again based on IDX data, noting that Allied Hill Limited now controls 92.54 percent of the shares, while the remaining 7.58 percent is held by the public.
Meanwhile, Allied Hill itself is a Hong Kong-based investment company under the Everpro Investments Limited owned by Joseph Oetomo, who is also listed as director and owner of the company's final benefits.
In terms of operations, management claims that the company is run with the principle of renewable resources and sustainable forest management as part of the company's sustainability commitment.
Responding to various accusations linking the company's activities to the ecological disaster in North Sumatra, Toba Director Pulp Lestari Anwar Lawden, gave rebuttals by confirming that all operational activities were carried out according to government permits.
Through a letter numbered 1143/TPL-P/XII/25 submitted to the IDX, management stated that it was not true if the company was accused of causing environmental damage.
In addition, he conveyed that the High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) assessments had also been carried out by third parties to ensure that the principle of sustainable forest management was applied.
"Of the total area of 167,912 Ha, the Company only developed an eucalyptus plant of around 46,000 Ha, while the rest was maintained as a protected and conservation area," Anwar wrote as quoted from the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) Information Disclosure, quoted Thursday, November 4.

"The company firmly rejects the accusation that the Company's operations are the cause of ecological disasters. All activities of the Company are in accordance with the permits, regulations, and provisions set by the competent government," he said.
In 2018, the company modernized production facilities to reduce environmental impacts through the application of more environmentally friendly technology and based on the 2022 2023 KLHK audit, the company received the results of Obeying and Obeying Regulations.
Furthermore, Anwar explained that the harvesting and planting activities were carried out again following the provisions of spatial planning, General Work Plans (RKU), and Annual Work Plans (RKT).
"The company maintains the continuity of the plantation forest as raw material for the pulp industry, so that the time gap between harvesting and planting is only 1 month at the latest, in accordance with the procedures listed in the Amdal document. We also report this periodically through the Environmental Monitoring and Management Report," he concluded.
