After Shutting Down Due To COVID-19, Nissan's UK Plant Reopened In June
JAKARTA - Nissan plans to open production of its vehicles in early June at the Sunderland factory, North England.
This factory is the largest in the UK and has been closed during the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic since March 17.
Each year, this factory produces 350 thousand cars with the Qashqai, Juke and Leaf models.
"During this period, the majority of factory employees will remain on leave, and we are grateful for the support of the government allowing us to take this action," the company said in a statement quoted by Reuters on Friday, May 1.
Last week, Nissan conducted a safety test involving about 50 employees at the factory site.
Meanwhile, in the UK, BMW's Rolls-Royce car factory will be the first to go into production, on May 4.
"We received orders from our customers and we are heeding the calls of the British government to continue production and support the UK economy," said CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes.
Apart from Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Bentley and Britain's biggest automaker Jaguar Land Rover are also scheduled to resume some of their production in June.
